On 11 and 12 January 2026, the chairpersons of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs (COSAC) met in Nicosia, officially launching the parliamentary dimension of Cyprus' Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The meeting commenced on Sunday, 11 January, with a session of the COSAC Presidential Troika. Following the session, the other COSAC participants joined for an official dinner. The programme continued on 12 January with two separate meetings. At the first meeting, Annita Demetriou, President of the Cyprus House of Representatives, welcomed the participants. Subsequently, Harris Georgiades, Chairman of the Cyprus Parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, formally opened the COSAC Chairpersons' meeting. This was followed by a presentation of the Presidency's priorities by Marilena Raouna, Cyprus' Deputy Minister for European Affairs. At the second meeting, keynote speeches were delivered by Yannis Maniatis, Greek Member of the European Parliament, and Jean-François Rapin, Chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the French Senate.
The Hungarian delegation consisted of Zoltán Tessely, Chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Hungary; Laokratisz Koranisz, Greek national representative in the Parliament of Hungary; Csaba Gergely Tamás, Senior Advisor to the Committee; and Krisztina Foucault-Váradi, Head of the Permanent Representation Office of the Parliament of Hungary in Brussels.
